The Fourth grade class from Grace Christian Academy visited the Thronateeska Heritage Center in Albany, Ga. on March 3. The Center inspires wonder and stimulates exploration of science and south Georgia history by providing a learning experience through an interactive science center and museum.
The students first toured the History Museum where they learned the story of Albany and Southwest Georgia. They listened as they were introduced to cultures from the Creek Indians to the bustling railroad. The exhibits in this section of the Thronateeska Heritage Center gave the students a reflection of who we were and who we are today.
The group also toured the Wetherbee Planetarium where students were able to study the wonders of space under the under the beautiful full dome. The exhibit was entitled “Oasis in Space” and both students and adults alike were fascinated by this state-of-the-art exhibit.
The final exhibit the students toured was the Science Museum where students had hands-on and visually engaging exhibits in geology, archeology and climatology. Each child was given and thrilling opportunity to see themselves on television.
The field trip ended with a delightful lunch at a local restaurant in Albany and enough time for the children to play on the playground equipment at Turtle Pond.
