Bainbridge College Students, Faculty, Staff Receive Honors

Taking place for the first time in the Charles H. Kirbo Regional Center on Main Campus, the Annual Bainbridge College (BC) Honors Night recognized outstanding students, faculty and staff with a variety of awards and scholarships.
Dr. Tom Wilkerson presented President’s Student Awards to the top male and the top female students in the freshman and the sophomore classes. The 2009 honors went to Rayna Andrews of Climax, who was also recognized for her perfect Grade Point Average (GPA), membership in Sigma Kappa Delta National English Honor Society and as recipient of the Climax Community Club Scholarship; Andrew J. Hay of Camilla, who also received the Decatur/Seminole Retired Educators Scholarship; Rachel E. Willis of Bainbridge, and Brinson resident William Anthony Yates, who also received the Students Abroad with Regents’ Support (STARS) Award from the University System of Georgia for his summer studies in France.
BC’s highest honor, the Academic Recognition Award, went to Anthony Jones of Whigham, who received proclamations from Georgia’s House of Representatives and from the state Senate presented by Rep. Eugene Maddox. The award goes to the student who had the highest number of credit hours with the highest GPA. Recipient of numerous previous awards, Jones had a perfect GPA.
Other BC students recognized for perfect GPAs were Wayne Fuller, Julian Kwilecki, Rhonda Schiffner, all of Bainbridge; Emily Pippin, who also received a Joanna Stone Scholarship, Timothy Hardrick, Sheila Kuhn, Charity Smith, all of Blakely; Victoria Yates of Boston; Bradley Jones of Cairo; Kim Foister of Camilla; Melissa Grubbs of Colquitt; Hiren Patel and Patricia Pitts of Donalsonville; Tywann Elijah and Diana Spooner of Iron City; Chelsea Carter,Alexandreia Taylor, Renee Terns, Katherine Trotter, all of Thomasville.
Arts and Science Division awards went to Chad P. Collis of Cairo, who received the Chemistry & Lab Award and was the first recipient of the Math Award from Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society inaugurated at BC this year; Megan Moncrief of Calvary, who received the Chemistry and the Organic Chemistry Awards, and Robert Shane Bentley of Bainbridge, honored for Chemistry 1 & 2 and recipient of an Academic Resource Center award.
Cairo resident A.J. Cantley of BC Plant Operations received one of four Meritorious Awards given to staff and faculty members by President Wilkerson at the April 30 event. Also recognized were Bainbridge residents Susan Ralph, library director, Valley Rogers, director and instructor of Early Childhood Care and Education, and Amy Shephard, purchasing.
Ann Brannen of Bainbridge was recognized as the Rick Perkins Award winner among Technical Studies Division faculty. Tech Studies students were honored in the Georgia Occupational Awards of Leadership (GOAL) program. Roger Pierce of Cairo was BC GOAL Winner and won the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Award. GOAL Finalists were Lillie Powell of Blakely; Countis Washington of Donalsonville, and Brinson resident Cheri Earp, who received a Leverett Scholarship.
Scholarships:
BC Ambassadors Scholarships were awarded to Calla Hartsfield of Bainbridge and Tammy Coleman of Bluffton. BC Foundation Scholarships went toLawrence Hancock of Bainbridge, Tara Womble of Cairo and Darlene Davis of Ft. Gaines.
Other Decatur County scholarship recipients included these Bainbridge residents: Donna Acosta and Leticia Acosta, D.M. Langston Scholarships; the latter also received a STARS Award; Janet Brock and Amanda Gossett, Julia P. White Scholarships and honor society membership; Morgan Lord, Flint River Hospice; April Scott, Gragg Brothers; Amy Summerlin, Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society Scholarship, and James Ramer, a Leverett Scholarship.
Bainbridge residents who received Lillethun Scholarships were Thomas Avery, Victoria Fleming, Kayla Hurley, who also received the Walter Cox Scholarship, and Tina Wallace. Nussbaum Scholarships went to Brenda Floyd, Colin Hancock, William Poppell and Charity Trawick, all of Bainbridge.
These Brinson residents received scholarships: Brittany Bellflower, Kermit F. Bates Jr. Scholarship, April Taylor and Brittany Williams, Lillethun Scholarships. Joshua Chase Alexander of Climax received the David Ramsey Simmons Sr. Rotary Club Scholarship.
Anthony Sellars of Cairo received the Ernest C. Jones Scholarship. Jenny Maldonado received the E.T. and Jewel Robinson Scholarship, and Kasey Gale, a Gragg Brothers Scholarship; both are of Donalsonville. Thomasville resident Latrice Donaldson was awarded a Joanna Stone Scholarship, and Betty Roberts of Damascus, a Lillethun Scholarship.
Club & Organization Awards:
Bainbridge College organizations recognized members of the BC community in addition to those already named. Academic Resource Center (ARC) Awards were presented to Kathy Davis, Nick Green, Alan Killingsworth, who also received a Work Ready certificate, Jennie Perry, Mary Turner, Chris Williams, all ofBainbridge; Brett Jones and Nive Moore of Cairo; Tracy Johnson of Climax, and Trista Pitts of Donalsonville. ARC gave special recognition to Dr. Mariam and Robby Dittmann and to BC Plant Operations.
Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society members recognized in the program were Casey Ferguson and Mickey Langford of Cairo; Robert Thompson ofClimax, also recognized by the Student Government Association (SGA); Heather Brown of Donalsonville; Rebecca Holton of Tallahassee, FL, and Jamie Herring of Whigham.
Honored for work with Bainbridge Association of Nursing Students were Heather Barber and VaShawn Thompson of Bainbridge, Linda Stokley and Donna Thompson of Climax, Justin Mikey Alday of Donalsonville and Ashley Chason of Whigham.
LPN Club members who were honored included Contrannia Cooper and Christy Elijah of Bainbridge; Jane Felch, Nicole Thornton and Narda Walker ofBlakely; Janine Birchett and Sherika Hubbard of Cairo; Sabrina Nelson of Colquitt and Daryl Simmons of Donalsonville.
In addition to President’s Student Award recipient Rayna Andrews of Climax, those recognized as members of Sigma Kappa Delta were Janet Brock andAmanda Gossett of Bainbridge and Brendia King of Colquitt.
Recognized for their work with SGA were President Chuck Strickland, Freshman Representative Chelsea L. Beard, Secretary Mary C. Dunn, all of Bainbridge; Second Vice President Kacey Moring of Calvary; First Vice President Robert Thompson of Climax, and Sophomore Representative Dallarie Jamison of Donalsonville.
Recognized for their Work Ready status were Shareka Price of Attapulgus; Jessica Addison, Becky Elkins, Sandra Heard, all of Bainbridge; Rhonda Harterof Brinson; Shandrekia Mango of Cairo and Jessica Stewart of Camilla.
Work-Study awards went to Kristen Drexler of Bainbridge for Main Campus and Mallory Womble of Blakely for the Early County Site.
