Bainbridge fiber optic ring construction going smoothly

Construction on Bainbridges fiber optic ring has recently begun. The fiber optic ring, which boasts speeds of up to 1Gb/s will be used for the city and its municipalities. The project is costing the city roughly $833,752 from Thomasville Utilities for the design and engineering of the network.

The City of Bainbridge is not the only one to benefit from this incredibly fast data network, the Decatur County School system will also be using this network. The school system will pay roughly $650,000 a year for the use of this network and each school will be provided about 100Mb/s but this may vary depending on the schools needs. City of Bainbridge Systems Administrator Sterling Widner stated that although currently it will only be used by the city and the school system, they may look into allowing other sectors to use it at a later time and possibly even construct a wireless network for the city. Construction on the fiber optic data ring will be completed in June or early July.
