Last week we published an article on "sexting", defined as teens taking racy or revealing pictures of themselves and sending to friends via picture messaging or email. SOWEGALIVE asked in our weekly poll if you believed teens should be charged with possession of child pornography. The majority of the voters, 58% to be exact, believe that teens should be charged with possession, while 42% of voters believe that they should not be charged. One commenter, WorriedMother, said that she has had to take her daughters phone away since January due to sexting and that the pictures of her daughter have even ended up on her mothers phone.
While the votes in our survey do nothing to affect the laws regarding this behavior, the survey does reveal stark contrasts in opinion on how violations should be dealt with. The availability of technology has certainly provided opportunities that never existed prior to now, and accessibility to this kind of material, is unparalleled by previous societies.
