"Things are getting better," Development Authority Executive Director Rick McCaskill said to the Commissioners on Tuesday morning. Mr. McCaskill told the Commissioners that there are multiple business prospects looking around the area but he could not elaborate further. He also gave the Commission an update on DaniMer Scientific and Meridian DaniMer Scienticific's facilities are in the final stages of completion, with the installation of the machinery, which they have already begun on, being all that is left to be done. DaniMer Scientific's sister company Meredian is currently remodeling their newly purchases facilities and currently have a staff of thirty-plus employees.
Other issue discussed by the Commission was the introduction of a Non-profit Food Sale ordinance. Decatur County previously did not have an ordnance covering non-profit food sale. The Commission moved to introduce the ordnance to be in compliance of the current state ordnance, which the Health Department already enforced. Under the ordnance non-profit organizations will need to apply for a permit at no cost to be able to prepare and sell food or to host food vendors at non-profit events. Bainbridge Bikefest Chairman Roy Reynolds was concerned that this ordiance was targeting his organization due to the ordiance mentioning Bainbridge Bikefest specifically. After much discussion between Mr. Reynolds and the Commission the details of the ordinance were explained. The ordiance was also modified before it was approved so it would not specifically mention Bainbridge Bikefest.
