Trash fire on Alice street in Bainbridge

At about 1:40 p.m. a garbage truck had to empty its nearly full load just off of Alice Street. The load, which had caught on fire, was billowing smoke into the air. Responders emptied the load and put out the fire in a matter of minutes.
Public Safety officers were on scene quenching the fire as the truck emptied its load into the lot across from Sammys Bait and Tackle on Alice street. The City of Bainbridge had a front end loader on scene to load the soaked pile of garbage into a dump truck to be transported to the landfill. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

For the second time in three months a garbage trucks load has caught on fire. In July a truck was on route to the landfill to empty its load when it noticed smoke behind it. The load was dumped into the highway until the fire could be put out.
