Water level: 187.97 Water temperature: 46.4 Water Clarity: Stained Bass Fishing Fair: With the cold weather we have experienced in the past couple of weeks, and the sudden drop in water temperatures, the majority of fish have ventured out to the deeper water. However some of the fish are still in the shallower waters on the flats next to deeper waters. One good way of catching these fish on the flats, is by using a lipless crank bait, such as the SPRO Aruku Shad 75 in Green Shiner, this bait puts off a lot of vibration, as well as noise, to draw attention to the fish in the near by channel drop offs.
When fishing the deeper waters, be sure to look for rocks, during the colder months, the rocks will hold heat and the fish will stack up on these rocks to absorb the heat. Use a crank bait that will get down to the deeper rocks, I like the SPRO Little John DD in "homeboy" color and also the SPRO Little John MD in Old Fire Tiger for the shallower rocks.
Another good method of catching cold water fish is with a Carolina Rig on the channel ledge Brush piles. I prefer a 3/4oz. carolina rig and a Big Bite Baits 4" "Kreit Kreature" in june bug color. all of these methods work well in the colder temperatures and are a sure fire way to catch some fish, so go give it a try today! Good Luck!
