Lake Seminole - down 6 inches, clear, 86 degrees
Bass - Good. The frog bite is still one of the better techniques happening right now on Seminole. There are basically two different techniques for frogging that seem to be working well.
Swimming a 3.5" Bite Baits Top Toad in Green Pumpkin Pearl over the tops of matted grass has been working real well when fish are in a chasing mood. You can usually tell when that fish are in this type of mood, because you will see the bass chasing minnows, bream, and shad up in the grass. When this type of action is present, use the swimming technique with the top toad. For this method, I like to use a heavy action Falcon 7'4" Cara T7 with 20 lb. Sunline Super Flourocarbon. The best hook for this frog is simply a 5/0 Gamakatsu EWG.
If you are not seeing much action in the grass, then the bass are probably inactive and they may want a slower presentation. There is no better frog on the market right now than the Spro Bronzeye Popper. Working the popper can be a bit tricky, but really there is no right or wrong way, just experiment with the bait and make sure you get it to pop when retrieving. Color depends on how bright the sky is. On bright, sunny days use a Natural Green, Green Tree, or Toad.
On dark, cloudy days use a darker color such as Natural Red or Rainforest Black. Look for holes in the grass and work the frog over the holes with a fast steady retrieve. When you fish over the tops of mats, slow the bait down. For this technique, you need a longer rod and heavy braid. Use 50 - 65 lb braid and a rod such as a Falcon 7'11" Bobby's Perfect Frog Rod.
